INDEPENDENCE DAY: STATEMENT TO ALL NIGERIANS FROM FORMER GOVERNOR OF ABIA STATE

Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has appealed to Nigerians to keep hope alive and be optimistic, saying “Nigeria is a blessed country in terms of human and natural resources.”
In a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Ebere Wabara, Kalu said, “October 1 is a significant date in the history of Nigeria and as such it should be dedicated to the founding fathers of Nigeria who were selfless in their service to the nation.
Our strength is our diversity in culture, language and ethnicity which has been keeping Nigeria indivisible over the years. Leaders at all levels need to re- double their efforts and work to improve the well being of the people.
The citizens also have to support policy and decision makers in nation building by demonstrating good moral conduct and selflessness in their daily lives. Government alone cannot make the nation prosper; it should be a collective commitment.
Let us use this period to reflect on the efforts and ideals of the founding fathers with a view to impacting the society positively”.
He added that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has so far demonstrated the will to take the country to greater heights.
The former governor also used the opportunity to call on well-meaning Nigerians to invest in the local economy as against keeping their investments abroad. He advised that the helm of affair adopt and implement realistic policies that will boost the Nigerian economy and drive growth and development. Appealing to Nigerians to remain calm and steadfast in their endeavours.
