Magic can only be made from months upon months of planning. From original script, edited and re-edited, shot and re-shot until that screen on opening night unveils the first image. The image that should captivate the audience until the last moving shot that brings it all to an end. The most recent and a very much-anticipated screening is that of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel, soon to be adapted for screen, ‘Americanah.’

Cast with true and thrilling leading actors, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o and Golden Globe nominee David Oyelowo. Not to mention that the cinematic pleasure we would be enjoying is brought to us by Brad Pitts Plan B Entertainment, need I go on? If you want to experience the humour and heart of this story I suggest grabbing a copy of the book and delve into the paged lives of Ifemelu and Obinze. It is a story of a couple in-love that suffer a separation. Determined to leave a nation riven by military dictatorship, Ifemelu secures a place at an American university shortly after 9/11. Obinze is unable to secure a visa and instead suffers as an undocumented immigrant in London. It is a brilliantly told and moving immigrant story.

If you don’t know this book I am pleased to inform you that it won the 2013 US National Book Critics Circle award for fiction and was named one of the 10 best books of the year by The New York Times Book Review, the BBC and Newsday.
