Some Questionable Movies in 2015

Time to get real
Africans already have lowered expectations of the movie industry in Africa, so why are we still yearning for average good movies?
This is because every time we convince ourselves that these films cannot get any worse, movies like Finding Love, Ikogosi, House girl Lover and Friend or Foe, like spring chickens come from the minds of our most talented writers and producers. Scary eih?
Sitting through these films like many I have sat through in the past, and like many of those who sit through these movies, we all have ‘a hope’ in common. Hope that as we keep watching House girl lover, the plot will eventually become more apparent or the characters desire more pronounced and not give us with a haphazard ending that does not connect to the rest of the story. Through finding love I found that this film was just another cliché mash up of characters looking for love in stories that do not once again – connect . If the idea was to be an unconventional mix of short stories within a film, then even as an art film it fails. Meanwhile, Ikogosi is simply a rubbish attempt at the remake of Tyler Perry’s ‘Why did I get married?’ Apparent to anyone who has seen the latter
That said, are these actually our best of the best in a continent so diverse and talented, or, is it merely time for the polishing of younger minds in a community that has over the past few years become more accepting of the Arts. The imaginations of the young run wild, is that not why they should be left to run wild on a page, to form a part of our future with their words, is that not why we should build them up and not tear them down. For a people whose better part of a culture involves an investment in the film industry both abroad and in our very own nollywood, you complain and moan about the quality of our movies but still you snigger at that performing arts students or theatre majors get real.
